Pitts Special S1S N522H project (experimental)

 

March 14, 2003 update.

The propeller overhaul has been completed. Today it was replaced on the aircraft and the engine was run. Everything checked out! It sounded great.

 

July 2003 update.

A picture of the instrument panel is below, left.

 

 

Repair of the top wing has begun. Top row, right you can see some of the wing damage that is revealed as the fabric covering of the wing is removed. Second row, left - all of the covering has to be removed so that the entire wing can be inspected. There are multiple points of damage with damaged wood pieces and broken glue joints. Despite the appearances of the last photo above, it turns out that there is nothing really major wrong with the wing. Everything is repairable without having to undergo major surgery such as a wing spar replacement.

 

May 2004

 

Repairs on the upper wing were completed and the project was sold.

 

July 2004

 

The aircraft is crated for overseas shipping.
